From DNA to Jay-Z: automatic rhyme detection in rap music, using ideas from bioinformatics

We show how to adapt ideas from DNA sequence analysis to finding rhymes in rap music, which are often inexact and complex. Our algorithms are surprisingly successful, and let us identify rappers by the style of rhyme they use, not the specific words rhymed.  Joint work with MMath graduate Hussein Hirjee.
